TU BA Sociology and Anthropology Colleges in Nepal Tribhuvan University

The major Sociology and Anthropology courses for the three-year Bachelor's level are designed to make the students familiar with the disciplines of Sociology and Anthropology and thereby make them able to analyze social and cultural institutions and process. It introduces students with important theoretical approaches and enables them to explore and interpret the meaning of social events and process from different perspectives, familiarize with the structure of Nepali society and culture, dominant global perspective on development and comprehend and analyze the unfolding developmental processes in Nepal. It also provides students with basic knowledge and skills required to undertake research studies in the fields of sociology and Anthropology.

Functional paper VI aims to make students familiar with basic concepts of development and developmental practices in Nepal.

Program Outline
The Bachelor of Arts- Major Sociology & Anthropology requires three year, desired set of 14 credit subjects (1400 marks), of college level study. It is a dual concept; hence the students get specialization on two majors (Sociology & anthropology and J&MC/English/RD/SW). Standard length of the program is 3 years, which requires full time students to take 4 credit subjects on firstyear, 5 credit subjects on second year and 5 credit subjects with 1 non credit subject on third year. Paper VI of each major is a functional paper. Paper VI of a second major will be a non credit for TU but will be awarded by RIA separately.

Sociologists and Anthropologists are employed in a diverse range of occupations in the private and public sectors of the economy. Their skills are drawn upon in private sector research organizations, consultancies, mediafirms and a wide range of social movements. They also carry out research for government departments on topics such as the distribution of income and wealth and gender and ethnic equality and teach and research in universities.Sociology and anthropology provides students with knowledge and skills that are relevant for a wide range of occupations such as social research, social policy formation, law, social work, medicine, personnel management, resource management, journalism, engineering, town planning and architecture. Some graduates work in government departments as researchers. Others are involved in policy development and analysis,preparing discussion papers for Cabinet committees, drafting new legislation and analyzing the pros and cons of different social policies. Some sociologists and anthropologists even make their way into Parliament.
