A survey conducted by London-based Times Higher Education (THE), a weekly magazine reporting specifically on issues related to higher education, has ranked Tribhuvan University (TU) among the top 1000 universities of the world for 2019.

TU scored 9.2 in teaching, 6.6 in research, 35.7 in citations, 34.0 in industry income and 45.2 in international outlook in which overall score is 19.0-25.9, according to THE world university ranking released on Saturday. Tirth Raj Khaniya, vice-chancellor of TU, said that the university had set the target of achieving the top 1000 position among the universities of the world by 2030 but it achieved the feat some 12 years before the set date.

“Our priority is now to strengthen international collaboration and improve its ranking,” said Khaniya.

TU's rank among the top 1000 universities of the world posed a challenge to the university to live up to the expectations as it needs to restructure and upgrade university's courses, said Dilliram Upreti, registrar of TU.

“We need to mend the drawbacks and weaknesses of our university so it can be ranked among best universities in the days to come,” said Upreti.

Earlier in 2017, the Ranking Web of Universities had ranked the TU at 3895th position among the universities from around the world.
