The Bachelor of Medicine and
Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is a four and a half year integrated program
followed by a compulsory internship training of one year.Generally, the
MBBS program is divided into three parts: the first two years of study
consists of basic medical sciences. These years also include an
introduction to clinical sciences. Over the next two and half years,
students learn the principles and skills of clinical medicine by
rotating through various medical specialties. The final one year
consists of internship.
Currently, there are four categories of MBBS colleges in Nepal—those that are affiliated with Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University, B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Science and Patan Academy of Health Science.
AFFILIATION : Tribhuvan University (TU)
The MBBS degree awarded by TU is formally recognized by all SAARC, Commonwealth & ASEAN countries and is reciprocally recognized by Europe, Asia, Middle East, America, Australia and African continents.
Programme Objectives of TU MBBS
> To inculcate the competencies in cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains.
> To be competent to manage health care at district hospital of Nepal
> To identify complicated health related problems.
> To refer them to the appropriate health institutions in the country.
Eligibility Criteria for TU MBBS
Those having passed the proficiency certificate in Medical Science under Tribhuvan University academic programme of two and a half years with Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and English or proficiency certificate in general science with Physics, Chemistry, botany, Zoology and English or 10+2 or Higher Secondary or equivalent academic programmes with Physics, Chemistry, Botany Zoology and English of Tribhuvan University Boards recognized by it with fifty percent aggregate mark, can apply into the programme. All must take the entrance examination prior to selection for the course.

The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program includes the core curriculum of four and a half academic years and comprises of basic medical sciences, clinical subjects and community medicine and in addition also has provision for medical informatics, community based learning with community exposure and elective study extending into the fifth academic year. In addition, the rotating internship (pre-registration year), of one year is compulsory at recognised hospital(s), before taking the licencing examination of Nepal Medical Council for becoming eligible to get registration for practising as a full fledged medical practitioner in Nepal.
The MBBS Curriculum of Kathmandu University which is based on the "SPICES" conceptual framework and lays stress on the Student centered learning, Problem based learning, Integrated teaching, Community-based learning, Elective study and Systematic approach to undergraduate medical education and adopts international practices in medical education.
Eligibility Criteria for KU MBBS
Completed 10+2 years of education or equivalent with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and not less than 50% of marks in each subjects of Physics, Chemistry and, Biology (PCB).
OR
Completed Bachelor of Science Degree, recognized by the University, with one of the following subjects viz. Physics, Chemistry, Biology and at least one other prescribed science subject of study up to the ancillary level and having scored not less than an overall aggregate of 50% marks, provided that such candidate shall have passed the earlier qualifying examination (10+2 or an equivalent examination) with the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
OR
Completed requisite course equivalent to I. Sc. (Biological Group) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, as main subjects after Certificate Level in Health Sciences from Dhulikhel Medical Institute, Kathmandu University and having minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and not less than 50% of marks in each subjects of Physics, Chemistry and, Biology (PCB).

AFFILIATION : B.P. Koirala Institute of Health ScienceThe MBBS program started in 1994 is recognized by Medical Councils of Nepal, India and Sri-Lanka. It is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools published by the WHO. The Curricula of MBBS of B. P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences are designed to produce caring, community oriented, conscientious & communicative doctors (medical and dental) best suited to work in Nepal.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Candidates who:
i. have passed I.Sc., class XII examination of the 10+2 system, or its equivalent Higher Secondary Council, with Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and English as their major subjects and obtained at least 50% marks in the aggregate in these subjects; and
ii. are at least 17 years of age by the last date of submission of application are eligible to apply in the MBBS and/or BDS courses.
Note: For Nepali Candidates applying under FTFS (Non-SAARC) Category: Those residing in Non-SAARC Countries and who have fulfilled Criteria-(i) as above from the same country are eligible.
MBBS program is run by B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Science at Dharan, Nepal.

Eligibility Criteria:
> The applicant should be a Nepalese Citizen.
> The applicant must have completed 17 years of age and not exceeded forty (40) years on the last day of submission of application form.
> Must have passed 10+2 or equivalent qualifications with Science or health science (General Medicine, Medical Lab Technology, Ophthalmic Science, Dental Science, Pharmacy) background from institutions recognized by Universities/Board of Nepal having passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB) with a minimum of 50% in each subject and also in aggregate
> In addition to the above criteria context of the applicant with Health Science background in Proficiency level he/she should have valid Level 2 (“Kha”) registration from Nepal Health Professional Council and in case of applicants who have done PCL in Pharmacy. Registration should be with Nepal Pharmacy council.
