The US Embassy in Kathmandu on Tuesday announced the opening of the application period for the 2015 Diversity Visa lottery from October 1. Submissions of the DV applications will continue till November 2.
“The US Embassy reminds applicants that there is no fee to enter the DV lottery. The US Embassy recommends against using a consultant to assist you with your application,” said a US embassy statement.
Entries for the 2015 DV lottery must be submitted electronically during the registration period. The embassy also asked aspirants to follow the electronic process while submitting applications.
The embassy stressed the fact that simply being selected as a DV winner, and even the receipt of a second letter, does not guarantee a US visa.
“At the time of your visa interview, a consular officer will determine whether you meet the qualifications and are eligible for the DV under the laws of the United States,” the statement said.
DV lottery winners must have completed minimum twelve years of formal education, or equivalent, to qualify for a visa. Vocational degrees, including from the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT), will only count if they are accepted in Nepal as a basis for further academic study in all institutes of higher education. Vocational degrees that allow limited admission to selected programmes are not considered twelve years of formal education for the purposes of the DV programme, the embassy informed.
