With a new schedule effective from Sunday, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has increased the power cut hours to a whopping 84 hours a week.
The new schedule will see power cuts up to 12 hours a day.According to the NEA, the power cut time can be altered by an hour depending on the favourable or unfavourable situations. The areas prone to electricty leakage will have to bear the brunt of an additional two to three hours outage.
According to NEA, the increased hours of power cuts owe to the increasing electricity demands.
With the onset of winter, the level of water in the running water bodies and artificial reservoirs drop, and the hyropower projects generate less electricity that is not enough to meet the growing demand.
