The American Embassy in Kathmandu is seeking an individual for the position of Economic Specialist.

POSITION: Economic Specialist, FSN — 11; FP — 4
WORK HOURS: Full-time; 40 hours/week
NOTE: ALL ORDINARILY RESIDENT (OR) APPLICANTS (See Appendix for definition) MUST HAVE THE REQUIRED WORK AND/OR RESIDENCY PERMITS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION
The incumbent provides advanced economic analysis and essential support to advance U.S. Government economic and commercial diplomacy priorities. The incumbent researches, analyzes, and presents reports on developments in the economic and commercial sectors of Nepal. The incumbent develops and maintains contacts across the spectrum of economic policy makers, business leaders, and civil society to inform the U.S. Government about relevant economic activity and the investment climate in Nepal.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
NOTE: Applicants must address each required qualification listed below with specific information supporting each item. Failure to do so will result in a determination that the applicant is not qualified.
1. EDUCATION: Master’s degree in the field of economics, finance, business, public administration, international relations, or political science is required.
2. EXPERIENCE: Seven years of professional experience in the field of Commerce, Economics or International Relations and experience analyzing and reporting on economic issues is required.
3. LANGUAGE: Level IV (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required. Level IV (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing Nepali is also required. English language ability will be tested.
4. KNOWLEDGE: Thorough knowledge of Nepal’s economic and commercial structure, institutions, and related government entities and key personalities is required. Knowledge of economic principles and data is required.
5. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to prepare precise, accurate, and informed analysis and reports on a wide range of economic issues is required. Ability to develop and maintain senior level contacts across the government, private sector, and civil society is required. Ability to use Windows-based computer applications is required.
