Nepal extends nationwide lockdown until April 27

Amid rising coronavirus cases, the government on Tuesday decided to extend a nationwide lockdown until April 27.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers took a decision to this effect as per the recommendation of the High-Level COVID-19 prevention and control committee.

The ongoing lockdown expires at midnight on Wednesday. All government services other than essential have been shut down, domestic and international flights have been suspended and people's movement has been restricted across the country. The country went into lockdown since March 24.

As of today, Nepal has 16 coronavirus active cases including one case of recovery.

Earlier today, neighboring India, which shares open and porous border with Nepal, extended the nationwide lockdown for nearly three more weeks, until May 3. COVID-19 cases have been increasing there in recent days with 339 deaths and 10,000 infections.
