    How to Renew Driving License in Nepal

    Driving licenses expire every 5 years in Nepal and for Bagmati zone, the Department of Transport Management handle these renewals.

    For the renewal of driving license, original license holder must be present in the transportation office and submit an application for driving license renewal. Similarly, the person should also submit the certicate that proves him/her to be with sound health.

    You have to follow these procedures to renew your license;

    STEPS FOR LICENSE RENEWAL

    >You have to visit the Department of Transport Management in your local area to renew your license.
    > You have to get a driver license renewal slip from the counter that is next to the entrance gate. It cost 38 rupees.
    > Attach your driver license to the slip and staple it.
    > Next you have to stand in the queue at counter number 11. Here you give in your slip and attached license. The officers will verify your records and give you a printed form with all your personal details. You will also be given another slip with a token number.
    > After this you will be told to go inside and wait in a small hall. The screen in the room shows counter number alongside token numbers. Wait till your token number is shown in the screen.
    > Go to the denoted counter number. Here, you give in your documents. They'll verify your name, ask you for your mobile number. They'll also take your picture with a webcam, take your bio-metrics and your digital signature.
    > Next you will have to approach to the Medical test booth. Here you will be tested for colour blindness, you could take a sample colour blindness test using the following link : Colour Blindness Test (http://enchroma.com/test/instructions/)
    > As a next step you will go to the desk next to the medical booth so that the officer can mark your information in computer
    > You will then be told to go outside and line up for the final document verification. Where you hand in the documents and the officer gives it back to you after verifying it.
    > You will then have to go to another window, submit your documents.
    > Finally, go to the neighboring window. They will call your name and you have to pay a fee which depends upon the license that you are renewing.
    > After the fee payment you will be provided with a printed form where you have to check whether all your information presented in the form are correct.
    > After the fee payment, you will be provided with a printed form, a pink slip, and a green slip, where you have to check whether all your information presented in the form is correct.
    > The process is finished. Keep the voucher safe and you can check the status online to know whether your license is ready or not.

    FEES:
    If you are unable to renew your driving license within a year from date of expiry, you need to pay 100% of amount as fine. Similarly, you need to pay 200%, 300%, 400% and 500% of amount as fine if you fail to renew your nepali driving license within 2, 3, 4 and 5 years respectively.

    The renew will be valid for next five years.


    Required Documents

    > An expired driving license. If it has been expired for more than 3 months expect fines.
    > 2 Passport and 1 Auto Size photograph. The recommended dimension for the small photograph is 2 cm X 2cm.

    (optional)
    > An attested photocopy of Nepali citizenship.
    > Photocopy of the expired license. Paste a Rs. 10 stamp on it.
    > Stationery items. Pen, Glue, Stapler and even a stamp pad if possible.
